Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff will miss the Japanese Grand Prix due to having surgery in the days leading up to the race.
A team spokesperson confirmed to RacingNews365 that Wolff would undergo surgery and miss the visit to Suzuka across the weekend of 22nd-24th September.
It is understood that Wolff is be operated on for a long-standing knee injury after the Singapore Grand Prix, which is to be held the weekend before the race in Japan.
Wolff has missed a handful of races in recent years, including the 2019 Brazilian and 2022 Japanese and Sao Paulo Grands Prix.
Driver Development Director and former F1 racer Jerome d'Ambrosio is set to step in to replace Wolff for the weekend, with the Austrian set to return for the Qatar GP in October.
37 year-old D'Ambrosio was Team Principal of the Venturi Formula E team, following his brief stint in F1 with Marussia and Lotus between 2011 and 2012.
It comes after Wolff has only just recently recovered from a summer break injury, after he sustained a fractured elbow while downhill mountain biking.
