Red Bull provide latest 'Macarena' wing update after Max Verstappen crashes

Red Bull boss Laurent Mekies has confirmed that the team will "have a fix" for its Macarena rear wing that was removed for the Belgian Grand Prix.

Max Verstappen crashed in qualifying for the Austrian GP, and then spun out of third place of the British GP after the airflow around his rear wing failed to reattach in time after the flap of his Macarena rear wing was closed. 

The issues in Austria and at Silverstone, whilst both mechanically related, were separate in nature, with Mekies hinting after the British race that the wing could be removed whilst solutions were found at Milton Keynes.

Ultimately, Red Bull reverted to its old-specification rear wing, with a DRS-style flap opening at Spa, with Verstappen taking his third podium of the season with third place.

Speaking afterwards, Mekies confirmed that a "fix" would be coming for the Hungarian Grand Prix. 

"It was mechanical, and it was two different things," Mekies explained of the wing failures. 

"So two different mechanical issues. We will have a fix for Budapest."

As for Verstappen, describing his race with the old design, he named the positive of being able to keep the car "on the road."

"You mean the old rear wing," he began. 

"It performed well. I kept [the car] on the road, which I think is the first thing. 

"We were just a little bit more competitive, and the balance was a little bit better, but we struggled more on the hard tyre, as simple as that."
