A surprise Red Bull error triggered Yuki Tsunoda to be eliminated in the first part of sprint qualifying at the Circuit of the Americas.
Tsunoda left the pit lane with 1m 46 seconds remaining on the clock, while the fastest lap in the first part of the session was a 1m 33.224.
The Japanese driver was among several other cars who found themselves released late, creating much drama through the first sector.
He tried to calve through those also preparing for a final lap, but the clock hit zero as he entered the final corners.
As a result of Red Bull's error, Tsunoda will start from 18th on the grid for the sprint race at the United States Grand Prix.
