RB team principal Laurent Mekies has paid tribute to the 'special' Daniel Ricciardo after he was dismissed from the F1 team in favour of Liam Lawson.
Ricciardo's grand prix career appears over after RB elected to drop the veteran in favour of New Zealander Lawson who will drive the final six rounds of the season, starting with the United States Grand Prix in Austin in October.
Lawson will partner Yuki Tsunoda, paving the way for the New Zealander to be a prime contender for the main Red Bull seat for next year should the team opt to ditch Sergio Perez.
Reflecting on Ricciardo's time with the team since he joined in July last year, Mekies praised Ricciardo for his approach.
"Everyone here at VCARB would like to thank Daniel for his hard work across the last two seasons with us," said Mekies.
"He has brought a lot of experience and talent to the team with a fantastic attitude, which has helped everyone to develop and foster a tight team spirit.
"Daniel has been a true gentleman both on and off the track and never without that smile. He will be missed, but will always hold a special place within the Red Bull family."
