Porsche make huge Formula E Gen4 announcement

Porsche's factory presence in Formula E is set to reach an entirely new level!

Porsche has confirmed that it will enter a second factory team into Formula E for the start of the Gen4 era.

Formula E's next generation of car – the Gen4 – will be introduced competitively at the end of 2026, for what will be the 13th season of the all-electric series.

For Gen4, Porsche announced on Monday that it will run four factory cars across two teams, all based out of Porsche's development centre in Weissach, Germany.

The announcement comes not long after the German manufacturer pulled out of the World Endurance Championship, to focus on IMSA and Formula E.

Porsche's move will see the outfit become the first in Formula E history to operate two factory teams, while it will also continue to have one customer squad.

The series has confirmed that a second licence has been acquired by Porsche, in order to enter the second factory team.

According to Porsche, the second factory team will be tailored around promoting "new talent".

"Motorsport shapes our brand," said Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President Porsche Motorsport. "Our heritage in traditional motorsport is unique and is reflected in every Porsche.

"In the future, we want to be able to say the same about electric motorsport. Compared to other racing series, Formula E offers a very attractive balance between effort and return.

"It also gives us the opportunity to further develop technical solutions that are relevant to our production sports cars. Among other things, we want to use this operational shift to find and promote new talent at all levels, not just drivers."

According to Laudenbach, while Porsche will have two factory teams from Gen4, it wants each to have its own level of independence.

"When marketing the additional cars, we want to create as much independence as possible, not just expand our current presence”, added Laudenbach.

"Next year marks 75 years of Porsche Motorsport – a success story that will also be shaped by stories from electric motorsport in the future."
