Porsche driver saga concludes as Formula E pairing announced

After months of speculation, Porsche has confirmed its driver pairing for the upcoming Formula E season – pre-season takes place in Valencia at the end of October.

Porsche has finally announced the expected promotion of Nico Müller to replace Antonio Felix da Costa, making him the new team-mate of Pascal Wehrlein in its Formula E outfit.

Müller was signed as a Porsche factory driver in August of 2024, but spent last season racing for customer outfit Andretti.

Following da Costa's departure from the German manufacturer to join Jaguar, Müller has been handed a promotion to the factory squad.

It is a move which felt inevitable after his surprise test early last year, which took place while having da Costa under contract.

Despite Müller enduring a disappointing Season 11 with Andretti, Porsche's belief in the Swiss driver is evident.

He has already been busy in the simulator preparing for not only the upcoming 12th season of Formula E, but also Porsche's Gen4 car which will soon conduct its first test ahead of its arrival at the end of 2026 (Season 13).

"I’m incredibly proud of this step and thank Porsche Motorsport for their trust," said Müller.

"My last season wasn’t easy, but it was all the more instructive – that motivates me tremendously to repay the team’s trust on the track.

"I’m looking forward to getting to know the team even more and I am convinced that Pascal and I will form a strong duo. I want to contribute as quickly as possible to helping the team build on its recent successes."

Porsche eyes every title

Porsche's ambition in the final season of Gen3 – the opening round in São Paulo takes place on December 6 – is to not only defend its teams' and constructors' titles, but also retrieve the drivers' crown.

Wehrlein failed to defend his championship last season, with Nissan's Oliver Rowland having dominated the campaign to claim the title.

The Stuttgart-based outfit is eager to fight for all three titles, with Porsche being very pleased with its driver pairing of Wehrlein and Müller.

"I am delighted that we continue to have one of the strongest driver pairings in the field," said Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President Porsche Motorsport.

"Pascal is, of course, a well-known figure. Nico has been able to familiarise himself with the Porsche 99X Electric at Andretti during the previous season and is therefore well prepared when he gets into the factory car.

"Our goals for the upcoming season remain the same: We want to fight for all three titles at the finale in London next year."
