Mercedes has been told by the police that "no criminal offences" have been committed in the anonymous email that was distributed around the F1 paddock over the Spanish Grand Prix.

The email alleged nefarious undertakings were happening at the Brackley-based team to disadvantage Lewis Hamilton, with accusations that his car, as well as tyre and race strategies were being sabotaged from within the team itself.

Toto Wolff flatly denied the claims in a fiery response, calling those behind the email and believers in such conspiracy theories "lunatics", whilst saying they should see therapists.

At the same time, he confirmed the matter had been handed over to the police to investigate. However, The police have not been able to find evidence of criminal wrongdoing.

"Northamptonshire Police received a report on June 12 regarding an email that had been circulated within the Mercedes AMG F1 Team," the police told PA Media.

"No criminal offences were found to have been committed however advice was given regarding any further emails the team may receive."
