Pierre Gasly has revealed he was forced to contest the Spanish Grand Prix without having access to his water.
Sunday's race in Barcelona was a hot affair, with the air temperature reading 29.5°C when the grand prix started.
Temperatures in the cockpit are always significantly hotter than the ambient reading, making hydration important at every race.
However, it is particularly vital at hot races such as Barcelona. Unfortunately for Gasly, the Frenchman could not drink water during the 66-lap event.
“It was very hard, I was very thirsty, because of the drink system,” Gasly told the media, including RacingNews365.
“We realised on the grid, when I jumped in the car, that the drink was stuck or something didn't work.
“I had no drink during the whole race, which I knew was going to make the afternoon quite long.”
Gasly ended the race in eighth place, marking just his second point-scoring result of the campaign.
Despite the positive result, Alpine has slipped to last place in the constructors' standings following a fifth-place finish for Stake's Nico Hulkenberg.
Gasly highlighted he lost time in the fight against the German driver through the deployment of blue flags, forcing him to move aside as he got lapped by the leading cars.
“I’m happy with the points,” Gasly added.
“We knew it was going to be more difficult on Sunday because we struggled a bit more with the tyre degradation and keeping the tyre last as long as the others. So it was a bit tricky.
“In the first stint, we reacted to Nico. We went on the medium, and he put on the soft. We’ll review, but it meant I had to go long. I got quite a lot of blue flags with Piastri, Norris and Verstappen.
“Every time, you lose two seconds. I don't feel we got exactly what we wanted out of it there.
“We still managed to stick in the top 10 and get four points, which is very important for the team, especially at the end of that triple header. I think we all needed that.”
