Oscar Piastri has been eliminated in the first part of sprint qualifying, ahead of the sprint race at the United States Grand Prix. The McLaren driver had improved on his final lap to go provisionally seventh fastest, but saw his time deleted. Piastri exceeded track limits at the penultimate corner and will now start the sprint race at the Circuit of the Americas from P16. Moments before Piastri exceeded track limits, Alex Albon spun at the same corner, which has caught out several drivers. Charles Leclerc topped the first part of sprint qualifying.
