Oscar Piastri's domination of the Bahrain Grand Prix from pole position was perhaps his finest F1 performance.
It was Piastri's fourth F1 win, matching the feat of team founder Bruce McLaren.
Piastri also recorded the first hat-trick of his F1 career, adding the fastest lap to that of winning the race from pole.
In doing so, Piastri became the first Australian to achieve the feat since Alan Jones won the 1980 season-opening Argentine Grand Prix for Williams.
That Jones hat-trick occurred in the 329th world championship grand prix, with Piastri's in Bahrain coming in race 1,129 - exactly 800 races later! For those keeping count, that is 16,528 days.
In further good news for Piastri, Jones went on to claim the drivers' title that year. After Bahrain, Piastri is just three points behind team-mate Lando Norris in the 2025 standings, but with more momentum after a tricky weekend for the Briton.
Piastri was denied a grand chelem in Sakhir after Ferrari's Charles Leclerc led for three laps during the first pit-stop cycle.
Had Piastri led between laps 15-17 in Sakhir, he would have become just the 27th driver to record a grand chelem, and the first Australian since Sir Jack Brabham at the 1966 British GP - 984 races ago.
The last grand chelem in F1 was set by Max Verstappen in the 2024 Bahrain GP.
