Perez, Russell out in Q2 in Spain

Sergio Perez and George Russell join Charles Leclerc in failing to make it into the top ten shootout for Spanish Grand Prix qualifying.

Sergio Perez and George Russell became the latest big names to fall in Spanish Grand Prix qualifying, with both failing to make it into the top ten shootout. Perez finished 11th after running wide and ruining his penultimate lap, and then failing to make up enough time on his final run. Russell will line up alongside him in 12th place, after a bizarre incident where he made contact with teammate Lewis Hamilton on the start-finish straight, after the younger Briton aborted a lap as his teammate was starting one. Russell apologised to Hamilton, who nevertheless did manage to set a time fast enough to make it into Q3. The elimination of Perez and Russell follows that of Charles Leclerc, who was knocked out in Q1 after setting a time that was good enough for only 19th, with the Monegasque complaining of a lack of rear-end grip.
