Sergio Perez has stated McLaren's pace during the Dutch Grand Prix was “scary” for Red Bull.
Lando Norris claimed his second F1 win at Zandvoort on Sunday, beating championship leader Max Verstappen by 22.9s, the largest margin of victory this season.
The Briton was unchallenged en route to the chequered flag while Perez was sixth for his best result since Miami.
“In terms of weekend progression, it was a solid one,” said Perez.
“But I was very disappointed with the pace in the race. It was something we were not expecting to have.
“I thought we were going to be a lot closer to the McLaren. Ferrari was a massive surprise and obviously McLaren.”
McLaren's strong haul of points over Red Bull has seen it narrow the gap to the Milton Keynes-based squad to 30 points.
Despite being beaten by its nearest rivals, Perez highlighted it was a constructive weekend for Red Bull as it seeks to turn around its form.
“Plenty of stuff to understand,” he said. “It has been a positive weekend for the team, we ran different specs with Max and myself.
“ A lot of data gathering for the weekend and hopefully very soon we can put everything together with the right package.
“Monza will be a different track again. But it was scary to see what McLaren can do.”
