Oscar Piastri has recognised the threat Max Verstappen possesses in the title-deciding Abu Dhabi Grand Prix after being beaten to pole by the four-time world champion.
Piastri was provisionally in second on the grid following the opening laps in the final part of qualifying; however, he fell behind his team-mate by the end of the session.
Norris' final lap was narrowly quicker than Piastri's, pushing the Australian back to the second row and third on the grid at the Yas Marina Circuit.
Piastri recognised that he just did not quite have the pace for pole, but believes the grid sets up an excitng grand prix.
"I think it was pretty good," said Piastri, discussing qualifying. "I think the lap I did in Q1 was nice to finally get into a rhythm through the weekend.
"And honestly, I think the last lap in Q3 was pretty good as well. There wasn't a whole lot left in that, so, no, just not quite quick enough today, but it sets up a pretty exciting day tomorrow."
To become world champion on Sunday, Piastri must overtake both Norris and pole sitter Max Verstappen, and hope something happens to his team-mate to push him outside the top five.
Asked if he has the pace to win, Piastri said: "We'll find out tomorrow. I think Max has looked very quick in the long runs this weekend, and clearly very quick over one lap.
"But yeah, let's see how much pace is affected tomorrow."
