Oscar Piastri has explained how a loss of rhythm and "execution" was key to his worst qualifying result of the season, with fourth place in Miami.
Piastri was third after the first runs in Q3 in Miami, but the Australian was pipped by Kimi Antonelli to third as Max Verstappen and Lando Norris will share the front-row.
The world championship leader had been on the front-row for four of the five races up until Miami, with third in Japan being his worst-result until Miami.
Reflecting on the session, the McLaren driver detailed how he simply lost the rhythm at a crucial point of the season.
"It had nothing to do with luck, it was just not the level of execution needed in Q3," Piastri told media including RacingNews365.
"It is never a great qualifying session when your best lap is the first lap of Q2, so there was quite a bit left on the table, and then there were a few mistakes on both laps in Q3.
"On both Q3 laps, I struggled at Turn 1, I lost two-tenths at Turn 1 on my first lap of Q1 and gained it back a bit through the rest of sector one and then fell away in the middle of the last one.
"I eventually recovered some of it, but it wasn't enough. It had nothing to do with preparation, it was just the execution of the driving.
"I'm not concerned about the pace I had, I just didn't use it when I needed it.
"After Q2, I just never got into the same rhythm and that was the difference at the end, so there are some things to look at for sure, but I know exactly where it went wrong, so it is frustrating, but it is better than being asked questions about why I was not quick."
