Oscar Piastri issues Lando Norris 'pressure' warning

Oscar Piastri is hopeful of taking the fight to Lando Norris in São Paulo on Sunday.

Oscar Piastri has warned Lando Norris that he will try to apply "pressure" onto the championship leader in the São Paulo Grand Prix.

After Piastri crashed out of the Sprint race in Interlagos, the Australian fell nine points behind Norris in the standings due to the Briton claiming victory.

To add to Piastri's frustration, he only managed to qualify in fourth for Sunday's race, while Norris stormed to another pole position.

Asked what went wrong in qualifying, Piastri responded to Sky F1: "I just didn't go any faster. I think that was the biggest thing.

"Just very different conditions than what we had yesterday, I would say. And just everything felt much trickier today.

"So yeah, obviously a bit disappointing with the result, but the car's looked quick this weekend, especially over a longer run, so hopefully I can take advantage of that tomorrow."

With four races remaining this season, Piastri is in need of a good result, particularly having crashed out of the last two Sprint races.

He is without a podium since the Italian GP, and is at risk of falling several points adrift of his team-mate going into the final few races.

However, Piastri is eager to put Norris under pressure in Brazil, but knows he must fight to the front first.

Looking ahead to the race, Piastri said: "I think, ultimately, I'll try and take whatever opportunities arise. If I can make progress forwards and put some pressure on, then I will. But, yeah, I've got to get there first."
