Oscar Piastri has opened up on the critical overtake he made on team-mate Lando Norris, which aided his run to victory at the Belgian Grand Prix.
After a delayed start, race control opted to commence the race with a rolling start amid the wet conditions.
Piastri stayed close to pole-sitter Norris through the opening corners before pulling along side him along the Kemmel Straight.
After completing the move into Les Combes, Piastri dominated en route to the chequered flag and extended his championship lead to 14 points.
“I knew that lap one was going to be probably my best chance of winning the race,” Piastri said, explaining his opening lap overtake.
“I got a good exit off Turn 1. I lifted as little as I did through Eau Rouge. It was enough.
“I was a bit disappointed it was a rolling start, because I thought that was going to take away some opportunity.
“When I was that close, I knew that was just going to lift a little bit less than Lando did and try and keep it on the track.
“It was a bit lively up over the hill, but I managed to make it stick. And then from there, the tow helped me out. I'm proud of my first lap.”
When the track dried out, Piastri switched to medium tyres while Norris fitted the hard tyres.
Despite closing the gap, a couple of mistakes from Norris denied him a true attempt to reclaim the lead.
“The rest of the race, we managed really well,” Piastri added. “I was struggling a little bit at the end. Maybe the medium wasn't the best for the last five or six laps.
“But we had it mostly under control, which is what I wanted.
“I was pretty disappointed with myself after yesterday, but it turns out starting second at Spa is not too bad after all.”
