Lando Norris rued his series of mistakes in the Bahrain Grand Prix, which cost McLaren a famous one-two in the Bahrain Grand Prix.
The McLaren driver received a five-second time penalty at the start of the race for starting outside of his grid box, something which was immediately seen by Max Verstappen.
It put an end to any small hope of winning at the Bahrain International Circuit, as Norris found himself in separate battles with the Ferraris and then George Russell.
Norris accepted that he made too many errors but revealed he was unaware of how far outside of his grid slot he was.
"I didn't think I was that far forward," said Norris. "I guess nothing more than that. So, a tough race.
"Of course, I made too many mistakes with the overtakes, [being out of] position. It was a messy race for me, and disappointed not to bring home a one-two for McLaren, because that would have been lovely at home. So a tough one, but still a few positives."
Starting outside his grid slot was Norris' first error, with him having later on been told to return a position to Lewis Hamilton.
Norris overtook the seven-time world champion around the outside of Turn 4 but put all four wheels beyond the white line.
When asked if he knew he had gone beyond the white lines, Norris bluntly answered: "No, I just got told."
That was not the end to Norris' mistakes, as he suffered a big lock-up at the first corner in the closing stages when trying to pass George Russell for second.
His errors resulted in him finishing in third, with the Briton having recognised the impressive performances by Russell and team-mate Piastri.
"He did a good job," added Norris. "So yeah, I thought I'd be able to get him. I guess he was probably just saving a little bit for the end, which he did well.
"So he did a good job. Oscar did a good job. So congrats to Oscar and the whole McLaren team, and I'll try to step it up for next weekend."
