Lando Norris is currently on a charge with McLaren with the MCL60s upgrades throughout the season propelling the team from also-ran to second fastest car on the grid.
He has four-second places in 2023, three to Max Verstappen and one to Carlos Sainz, and is currently in seventh in the Drivers' standings on 115 points, overtaking George Russell on countback whose sole podium was third in Spain.
Norris's 18 points in Japan actually earned him a dubious F1 record - taking one of Nico Hulkenberg's unwanted records: the driver with the most career points without a win.
Norris now has 543 points to Hulkenberg's 530, although it should be said that more points are on offer in today's F1 than in previous era with the top 10 now earning points whereas it was previously the top five, top six and then top eight.
The table below also features some familiar names - with it being likely that Hulkenberg will once again hold the record.
Most career points without an F1 win
| Driver | Points | Best finish |
|---|---|---|
| Lando Norris | 543 | 2nd |
| Nico Hulkenberg | 530 | 4th |
| Romain Grosjean | 391 | 2nd |
| Nick Heidfeld | 259 | 2nd |
| Lance Stroll | 241 | 3rd |
