Lando Norris has taken pole position for the Hungarian Grand, besting team-mate Oscar Piastri to the top spot by a narrow margin.

Max Verstappen is set to start the race from third on the grid, finishing ahead of the leading Ferrari of Carlos Sainz.

The session was red-flagged with just over two minutes remaining on the clock following a large shunt for Yuki Tsunoda on the exit of Turn 5.

At the restart, a handful of cars headed back out onto the circuit, however only Daniel Ricciardo improved at the low end of the top 10.

Early exits in the field included Sergio Perez, who crashed out during Q1, and George Russell.

Russell's Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton was fifth ahead of Carhes Leclerc, while the Aston Martin duo of Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll were seventh and eighth respectively.

Daniel Ricciardo was ninth, ahead of Tsunoda whose session ended in the barrier.

Hamilton narrowly avoids Q2 exit

Hamilton progressed into the top 10 shootout by the skin of his teeth, as his 10th place time in Q2 was just 0.010s faster than Nico Hulkenberg.

The Haas driver ended the session in 11th place, marginally ahead of Valtteri Bottas, driving for the Stake F1 team Hulkenberg will join next year.

Williams enjoyed a positive session and got both cars into Q2 with Alex Albon once again getting the better of team-mate Logan Sargeant.

Kevin Magnussen was the slowest of the segment and is set to start Sunday's grand prix from 15th.

Shock early exits in Q1

The shootout to avoid the initial dropzone at the start of the session began in slippery conditions.

A red flag was deployed with just six minutes remaining in the session after Perez found himself in the barrier at Turn 8 following a high-speed spin.

The crash adds to the challenging period Perez is enduring as questions continue to swirl over his future.

Once the session resumed, the times began to tumble - and it delivered a shock exit in the form of Russell.

Despite improving his time, Russell ended the segment in 17th, ahead of Zhou Guanyu and the Alpine duo of Esteban and Pierre Gasly who were not on the track as the final laps were being set.
