A crash for Nico Hulkenberg on the seventh lap of the Qatar Grand Prix has triggered pit lane chaos at the Lusail International Circuit.
Hulkenberg crashed out at the first corner after being tagged by Pierre Gasly. The German driver attempted to sweep around the outside, whilst Gasly on the inside touched Hulkenberg's left-rear.
A decision was quickly made by the stewards that the collision would be investigated, although it was just as quickly decided that no further action was necessary.
The accident resulted in an immediate safety car, which saw every driver pit except both McLarens.
Specifically, for the Qatar GP, no set of tyres can do more than 25 laps, meaning each driver must make at least two pit stops.
Oscar Piastri made a great start from pole to lead, whilst Lando Norris fell behind Max Verstappen at the start – the Briton and Dutchman swapped positions after the latter pitted.
Due to the tyre rule, Verstappen must pit by lap 32, forcing him into a three-stop strategy. It was a bad start for Haas' Esteban Ocon, as he received a five-second time penalty for a jump start.
