Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has highlighted his team is “relishing” the fight for second place in the constructors' championship.
Just 10 points separate Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull in the battle for the runner-up spot, while leaders McLaren sealed the title in Singapore.
Mercedes endured a difficult round last time out in the US and was out-scored by its direct rivals. George Russell crossed the line at the end of the grand prix in sixth, while team-mate Kimi Antonelli failed to finish inside the points.
With Mercedes looking to hold onto second place in the final rounds, Wolff is expecting the clash to run all the way to the final event in Abu Dhabi.
“Five races to go. Just 10 points separating P2 to P4 in the constructors' championship.
“We had a poor result in Austin and our rivals gained ground on us. We have the chance to bounce back straight away this weekend in Mexico though.
“It's going to be a battle all the way to the chequered flag in Abu Dhabi and that is something we are relishing.”
Mercedes dropped to fourth in the standings last year, its lowest result since the 2012 season.
The Brackley-based squad is looking to bounce back from the difficult US event with a more positive showing this weekend in Mexico.
Previewing the upcoming event, Wolff said: “Mexico City presents a unique challenge.
“The high altitude taxes the brakes and power unit significantly, whilst the thin air requires a high downforce set-up.
“Our reserve driver Fred Vesti will be in the car for FP1, completing the second of his rookie sessions this year. He will contribute to our programme, as he does every time he is in the car.
“The field is tight but we are hopeful of a strong showing, stronger than we managed a few days ago in Texas.”
