Max Verstappen has shared his thanks to Helmut Marko in a social media post after the Austrian's resignation from Red Bull was announced.
The 82-year-old has decided to step away from the six-time constructors' champions after the 71-time grand prix winner narrowly missed out on winning a fifth F1 drivers' title in the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
In his post in tribute to Marko, who was instrumental in bringing him to the Red Bull family and has been a key ally since he made his debut for Toro Rosso in 2015, Verstappen reflected on achieving everything the pair "dreamed of together."
"Thank you, Helmut 🙏," the caption read. "We’ve achieved everything we ever dreamed of together. I’m forever grateful for your belief in me 🙌".
Verstappen helped protect Marko from losing his role at Red Bull early in 2024, amid internal tensions and infighting at Red Bull in the wake of the allegations brought against then-team principal Christian Horner.
However, he feels that now is the right time to bow out, after over 20 years with the team, since it first acquired the former Jaguar Formula 1 team for the 2005 season.
