Max Verstappen offers 'spoiled' Red Bull response after Austrian disaster

Max Verstappen failed to add to his staggering record of victories and pole positions at the Red Bull Ring, settling for a first DNF since Australia last year.

Max Verstappen pointed out that Red Bull perhaps got "spoiled" having so many successful Austrian Grands Prix in recent years, following his shock retirement at the Red Bull Ring.

It was one of Red Bull's most disastrous home events in its history, with Verstappen having been taken out on the opening lap, whilst Yuki Tsunoda finished in 16th.

Verstappen was hit at the third corner by Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli, who received a three-place grid penalty for Silverstone as punishment.

For the four-time world champion, it summed up a weekend full of bad luck after being unable to finish his final lap in qualifying due to a spin for Pierre Gasly.

Despite the disappointing, the Dutchman highlighted how much success the team has enjoyed at home in the past.

When asked by select media, including RacingNews365, how frustrating it was to retire from the team's home race, Verstappen responded: "Yeah, of course, it's not what you want.

"At the end of the day, probably, I'm the most disappointed about it, but at the end, that's racing as well.

"We've had a lot of great moments here, so probably we got a little bit spoiled with that as well at the same time. So sometimes that's the case."

To add to Verstappen's disastrous Sunday, McLaren secured a one-two, dropping the Red Bull driver to 61 points behind Oscar Piastri.

Securing a fifth consecutive drivers' title is looking increasingly unlikely for Verstappen, who is not thinking about the championship.

"Yeah, I was never thinking about that anyway," added Verstappen. "So, yeah, we just take it race by race, and we try to just find more performance with the car.

"Try to learn from all the things that we are doing, and then we'll see what happens."
