Max Verstappen has warned against drawing premature conclusions from Red Bull's encouraging Monaco Grand Prix qualifying performance, insisting that this week's Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix will provide a far more accurate measure of the team's progress.
The Dutchman secured a front-row start in Monte Carlo after qualifying second behind Kimi Antonelli, narrowly missing out on what would have been his first pole position of the F1 season.

Kimi Antonelli to miss Barcelona FP1 as Mercedes confirm change
Mercedes has confirmed that Kimi Antonelli will sit out first practice ahead of this weekend's Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, with Frederik Vesti taking his seat.
Each team must field a rookie in four first-practice sessions during the 2026 season, with Williams and Cadillac also announcing driver changes for this weekend.

Martin Brundle backs 'brutal' F1 penalties despite driver outcry
Martin Brundle has backed the "brutal" penalties handed to F1 drivers following the Monaco Grand Prix for pit-lane speeding.
In Monte Carlo, five drivers including Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, and Pierre Gasly all received penalties for speeding in the pit-lane by less than 0.5kph, with it thought that drivers trying to shorten the pit-lane by cutting white lines was to blame, as the speed is a calculated average and not a set capture point.

McLaren has announced that it will hand reigning Formula 2 champion Leonardo Fornaroli his Formula 1 debut this weekend in first practice ahead of the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix.
Reigning world champion Lando Norris will sit out the opening session of the seventh round of the season, with Fornaroli taking his seat for his debut.
