Max Verstappen has pinpointed where Red Bull needs to improve in the second half of the campaign if it wishes to enjoy a more successful period.

The Milton Keynes-based squad is the only team inside the top four that hasn't won a grand prix so far this year.

The RB22 has offered challenges to Verstappen and his team-mate Isack Hadjar across the opening 11 rounds of the year.

While Verstappen has managed to bag four podiums so far, a win has evaded him while he battles with the balance and aerodynamic limitations of the car.

When asked how he would sum up the first half of the season, Verstappen told media including RacingNews365: “Tough.

“In general, it’s been very tough. Some good moments, some bright, shining moments, I guess, but overall, tough.

“So, we need to try and be more solid, a bit more all-round, to have more straightforward weekends.”

With new technical regulations coming into play this year, the F1 teams are engaged in an upgrade war with a lot of time on the table to find.

Verstappen insisted Red Bull can't take its foot off the pedal as the year enters its second half at the Dutch Grand Prix next month.

“Plus, we need to find more performance,” he said. “I mean, it’s as simple as that at the end of the day.

“Then, besides finding more performance, just not having the issues as well with the current package, let’s say, that we have.”
