Max Verstappen cherishes a special F1 chapter: 'No one can take that away from us anymore!'

The Dutch Grand Prix at Circuit Zandvoort is drawing to a close, and both Max and Jos Verstappen have reflected on what has been a remarkable chapter of motorsport history for the Netherlands.

After six years, the Dutch Grand Prix is set to hold its final edition at Zandvoort in the coming weeks. The weekend is expected to deliver the same electric atmosphere that has characterised previous editions, though for many it will be a bittersweet occasion, knowing it is the last, at least for the foreseeable future.

Jos Verstappen expressed his sadness at the news in the Viaplay documentary 'Dutch GP: Tegen Alle Verwachtingen In' ('Dutch GP: Against All Expectations').

"It is a shame, certainly for the Dutch fans," he said. "But I think we should already be grateful that the event came here. You notice it too: circuits like Spa are also struggling. I think we can only be proud of what they have built in Zandvoort."

His son Max, the four-time F1 drivers' champion, highlighted the broader influence the race has had on Formula 1 as a whole.

"I also understand the reasons behind it, and ultimately... We have experienced some beautiful years there; nobody ever expected this," the Red Bull driver said.

"I think a lot of grands prix have learned from this, and that they are adjusting things regarding the experience of a weekend. That is only a bonus."

Verstappen, who won three times at Zandvoort across the event's five recent editions, spoke warmly about the memories that have been created there.

"I just think it is wonderful that it happened, that I was obviously able to be a part of it and that we were ultimately able to win a few there," he said. "No one can take that away from us anymore!"

The final Dutch Grand Prix is a sprint weekend and promises to be a fitting send-off for an event that, by many accounts, helped reshape how Formula 1 approaches the fan experience at race weekends.
