Max Verstappen has conceded that Red Bull was “just too slow” during the Silverstone sprint race on Saturday.
Verstappen started the race from third on the grid but was unable to hold his position, dropping places on a circuit that exposed the RB22's weaknesses in high-speed corners.
The four-time world champion found himself dragged into a fraught battle with both McLarens, George Russell and Charles Leclerc, but unable to match the pace of those around him as degradation took its toll.
By the chequered flag, Verstappen had slipped to sixth, a deeply frustrating result given the promise of his sprint qualifying effort on Friday.
He offered a blunt assessment afterwards, stating: "Just too slow.”
"We were degging more than the cars around me and especially getting destroyed in the high-speed. Just couldn't keep with them.
"Then sliding more to try and keep up with them and then you deg your tyres more."
Verstappen can now make changes to his car ahead of qualifying for the grand prix to get his car into a more competitive position.
