Max Verstappen has been backed by an overwhelming majority to clinch victory in the United States Grand Prix sprint.
The Red Bull driver secured pole position for the one-third distance race at the Circuit of the Americas, beating out Lando Norris by seven-hundredths of a second.
Oscar Piastri was third in the second McLaren, ahead of a surprisingly quick Nico Hulkenberg and the Mercedes of George Russell.
The 19-lap race will be a prelude for the main event in Austin on Sunday, but with Verstappen breathing down the necks of the papaya pair, they need to find a way past the four-time F1 drivers' champion in the sprint.
However, in a recent poll by RacingNews365, almost 70 percent of voters backed the Dutchman to win the race of the Texan weekend.
