Brundle had a very unusual route to Formula 1 that involved grass-track racing and hot-rods. He would eventually transition into touring cars and would also make his Formula Ford debut in 1979. In 1982, he moved to Formula 3 where he would duel future F1 legend Ayrton Senna, narrowly missing out on the championship.

Brundle was offered a Formula 1 drive in 1984 with the Brabham team. Despite finishing on the podium in his eighth race, Brabham would be disqualified from the championship for a technical infringement and Brundle’s results would be stripped from the record books.

He would spend the next three years of his career racing in uncompetitive machinery and accumulating 10 points in total. The Englishman would transition into sportscar racing, attaining better success before returning to Formula 1 in 1989, where he once again struggled with Brabham before winning the 1990 24 Hours of LeMans.

Brundle would return to Formula in 1991 and spend the next few years of his career riding the F1 roller coaster, scoring several podiums but no wins. His last season was in 1996 where he ended his F1 career finishing eighth in the driver’s championship.

Brundle has gone on to become an accomplished media personality and commentator in the sport. He has worked for several media outlets including ITV, BBC, and Sky Sports, and his grid-walks prior to the start of each race have become something of a legend.
