Liam Lawson has revealed the instruction he has received from Red Bull bosses to help him retain his Formula 1 seat.

The New Zealander is in his first full season of grand prix racing, but was demoted from Red Bull back to Racing Bulls ahead of the third race of the season, where he has begun to perform strongly.

Lawson has banked two top-six finishes, including a career-best fifth in Azerbaijan, but followed this up with a poor showing in Singapore, including two practice crashes as he laboured to 15th at Marina Bay.

Lawson is one of a number of candidates for a Racing Bulls seat in 2026, with Yuki Tsunoda, Isack Hadjar, Arvid Lindblad and potentially former McLaren junior Alex Dunne all potential options for the team.

When asked if he had received any instructions as to how he could save his seat, Lawson gave a straightforward response.

"It is nothing in particular, other than just scoring points and having good races," Lawson told media, including RacingNews365, before the Singapore GP.

"The main thing for us is scoring points, we are fighting for P6 in the constructors', and the team is very focused on that.

"If we achieve that, it naturally means I've probably done my job.

"From a wider perspective, that's probably the goal for me: every time I get in the car, trying to get the most out of it and score as many points as I can."
