Liam Lawson has highlighted how quickly a driver can lose their "edge" over an F1 weekend, given how close the field is at the moment.
The New Zealander emphasised the perpetual need to push session after session to retain any advantage a team or driver may have established.
Heading into the British Grand Prix, the Racing Bulls driver will be targeting a follow-up performance to his career-best drive to sixth place at the Red Bull Ring.
Having started the Austrian Grand Prix in sixth, the 23-year-old survived a first-lap scare when Kimi Antonelli collided with his VCARB 02 in Turn 3.
From their, the use of the offset one-stop strategy helped Lawson hold on to finish where he began the race.
It was just the second points finish of his season, which started in dismal fashion for Red Bull in Australia and China.
But buoyed by his recent result, he is focused on improving Racing Bulls' car, in order to not fall back in the "very close" fight up and down the grid.
"It's another high-speed circuit," Lawson told media, including RacingNews365, when looking ahead to the round at Silverstone.
"To be honest, it's felt pretty good [in Austria], but it's just very close at the moment in Formula 1.
"You can start the weekend quite good, and within one session, other people make a small step, and you've lost your edge.
"So it's really about keeping pushing every session and trying to improve the car because half a tenth makes such a difference."
