Lewis Hamilton is targeting a first Ferrari podium in the Canadian Grand Prix, after finding some performance following a driving style adjustment.

The seven-time world champion secured fifth on the grid at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and qualified three places ahead of team-mate Charles Leclerc.

It marked one of Hamilton's better qualifying sessions of the season, at a track he has been victorious at on seven occasions.

"On one side history, I've had great times here," Hamilton told select media, including RacingNews365. "It's a great circuit. Lots can happen, obviously. So for that, I'm open-minded.

"Fundamental baseline of our car, it's not as quick as the guys up ahead, clearly quite far off, but we have a new medium, as opposed to the guys ahead and have used.

"So hopefully there's something, I'm still hopeful our race pace could be good, maybe, and if we can get the balance set right for the front wing, hopefully.

"I would love to see if we can move forward. Podium still is the goal."

Despite Hamilton qualifying in fifth, Ferrari has once again found itself fourth in the pecking order, behind Mercedes, Red Bull and McLaren.

Hamilton has recognised that the SF-25 is not suited to Montreal, making him adjust his driving style compared to how he drove a Mercedes at the venue.

"I think probably today, most progress came from my driving changes, adapting my driving style," revealed Hamilton. "I made a few changes to how I drove the car. This car drives so much differently to what I drove before.

So much difference. You go into low speed corners, and it just you're waiting, and waiting it doesn't want to turn. It's definitely not suited for this circuit."
