Lewis Hamilton reveals George Russell text plan after Spa collision

Lewis Hamilton has revealed that he plans to text George Russell to make sure everything is OK following the pair's Belgian Grand Prix incident.

Hamilton and Russell found themselves side by side as they entered Les Combes on the opening lap, before the seven-time world champion made contact with the Mercedes.

The collision spun Russell around and left him beached in the gravel, ending his race and dealing a major blow to his title hopes.

Russell was visibly emotional in the media pen but described the collision as a racing incident, although Hamilton did receive a five-second time penalty.

Hamilton was deemed to have caused the collision, resulting in the punishment, which he served at his pit stop.

Asked if he will speak to Russell, Hamilton told select media, including RacingNews365: "I'll text him later on because everyone rushes out of here.

"But yeah, I was thinking the last thing you ever want to do is come together with your team-mate or with your old team, who I highly respect, with George. But it happened."

While the penalty ended Hamilton's podium hopes, the 41-year-old still demonstrated strong pace at Spa-Francorchamps. He recovered to finish fourth, while Charles Leclerc claimed second.

It marked a real boost for Ferrari, which had been expected to struggle at both Silverstone and Spa, yet performed very well at both venues.

Discussing Ferrari's strong showing at two venues where it was expected to struggle, Hamilton added: "Yeah, it's just showing that the car is moving in the right direction, and really it's just down to the team doing such a great job of bringing improvements every weekend."
