Lewis Hamilton has revealed his hope that himself and Charles Leclerc can work together in the British Grand Prix, in a bid to beat Kimi Antonelli.

The seven-time world champion had to settle for third in qualifying at Silverstone, and for the first time this weekend was unable to beat Leclerc who secured a front row start.

However, it was championship leader Kimi Antonelli once again who clinched a comfortable pole, shortly after extending his title advantage by winning the Sprint.

Ferrari has made steps towards Mercedes at Hamilton's home venue, although the 41-year-old could not keep Antonelli behind in the 17-lap race ahead of qualifying.

Qualifying in third gives Hamilton the chance to fight for at the very least a podium at Silverstone, with him being pleased with the result.

"I'm happy to be up here," said Hamilton. "Both of these guys [Antonelli and Leclerc] did a great job.

"Charles has been making good improvements and we just didn't have the pace of the Mercedes, which has been a thing for a while.

"But we are slowly closing the gap and to have both of us up here is great for the team."

While a podium in front of his fans would be enjoyable for Hamilton, it is the win which would make the circuit erupt.

Despite that, he is unsure if Antonelli can be beaten, although does hope Ferrari tries something with his and Leclerc's strategies.

Asked if Ferrari can win, Hamilton replied: "It's definitely great to have both of us here. Whether or not we can fully keep up with Kimi, we will see but hopefully we can play with the strategy and work as a a team to try to topple them. We will do our best for sure."
