An F1 record held by Lewis Hamilton will remain intact for some time after Oscar Piastri's crash at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Following a false start, Piastri dropped to the back of the F1 field on the run into the opening corner in Baku.
As he sought to make up the lost ground, the Australian locked up his front tyre on the approach to Turn 3 and speared into the barrier, eliminating himself from the race.
It marked his first non-finish since the 2023 US Grand Prix and brought an end to his streak of consecutive races finished.
Prior to his Baku crash, Piastri was closing in on Hamilton's record for the most consecutive races seeing the chequered flag.
From the 2018 British Grand Prix to the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix, Hamilton finished 48 races in a row.
His streak was halted by being forced to sit out the Sakhir Grand Prix after testing positive for Covid-19.
Piastri's race-finishing run began at the 2023 Mexican Grand Prix and concluded with the Monza race earlier this month, cementing the figure at 44.
George Russell is now Hamilton's closest threat, with his current streak at 26 grands prix.
