Lewis Hamilton has questioned Ferrari's decision to go out first on the final runs in Q3 as he faces a stewards' inquiry at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Hamilton held a 0.101s advantage over Lando Norris ahead of the final runs at the Hungaroring, but was pipped by the McLaren by 0.012s on the second lap after failing to improve his time.

Hamilton is facing a near-certain penalty from the stewards after impeding Oscar Piastri at Turn 1 on the Australian's final lap, as Hamilton questioned how Ferrari went out first for the final runs - with only Norris finding any improvement.

"We have been doing a great job all weekend. I felt solid throughout qualifying and, for some reason, we went out first, which I don't think was the right call," Hamilton said.

"But then, on top of that, just the grip for some reason wasn't there on that last lap for both Charles and me.

"We were quickest throughout qualifying so it definitely got away from us.

"It's obviously a track that I love. We're obviously competitive, but I think tomorrow is going to be a hard day.

"I think my mind is just elsewhere just this second because once I finished my lap I don't know if I got in the way of someone.

"So I'm trying to just run that through my mind because I wasn't aware anyone was coming."
