Lewis Hamilton detailed his pleasure at Ferrari "punching out better results" after missing out on pole position for the British Grand Prix.
The seven-time world champion had looked in the fight for pole throughout qualifying, having topped first practice and Q2.
He looked set to secure a front row start on his final lap in qualifying; however, a moment in the final corners left the Briton down in fifth on the grid.
There was some disappointment from Hamilton in having not qualified closer to the front, although he confirmed his delight at genuine progress having been made with his engineer.
"I'm really pleased with the progress," Hamilton told select media, including RacingNews365.
"I'm really pleased with the direction, my engineer and I have been really gelling a lot better in terms of how we set the car up.
"I was much happier in the car, and the lap was really, really nice up until just that, literally, that last corner, just a bit of understeer.
"I don't know if it was the kerb that put me a little wide, but then I just lost it, I think it was just over a tenth. So that would definitely have been for the front row."
Qualifying has been the Maranello-based outfit's main problem this season, with its race pace having saved it some good results.
Its upgrade in last weekend's Austrian Grand Prix has improved the performance of the SF-25, encouraging Hamilton that better results are on the way.
"Yeah, we are making progress," added Hamilton. "There's still more to make, but we obviously had the upgrade in the last race.
"We are improving our process the way we go about our weekends, and definitely feel like we're punching out better results. So keep pushing."
