Lewis Hamilton has heaped praise upon Oscar Piastri, but pointed out an "unimaginable" force the Australian - and his McLaren team-mate Lando Norris - must deal with.

Lewis Hamilton has explained how the pressure on Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris will be "unimaginable" for most people to comprehend, as the F1 title fight continues to ramp up.

The 40-year-old believes the former, in particular, is doing a "great job" this season, as the two McLaren drivers fight each other in an intra-team battle with the added, outside threat of Max Verstappen looming large.

Piastri sits atop the standings seven rounds into the campaign. The Australian is 13 points clear of Norris, with the Red Bull driver a further nine back.

The twin dynamics of the championship equation makes it a tantalising prospect, and Hamilton maintains it is "mega" to see his former team restored to its past glory.

"I think the job he's doing is fantastic," The Briton told media including RacingNews365 when asked for his views on the drivers' championship leader.

"It's mega for me to see McLaren doing so well, because that's where I started.

"And also to see them so close, him and Lando - two great drivers. The pressure on both of them will be unimaginable, I would say, for most people that are not experiencing it.

"And although I've experienced it, it seems both Lando, and in particular Oscar, is doing a great, great job, weekend in, weekend out, delivering in qualifying..."

Hamilton: 'I don't have any advice for him'

The six-time grand prix winner has enjoyed an advantage over Norris during the grid-setting sessions so far this season, turning his weakness over one lap into a strength - all while the British driver has taken a relative step backwards in that area.

To Hamilton, it forms part of a wider tapestry. The seven-time F1 drivers' champion stated that due to Piastri's performance across the board, he did not have any words of wisdom to impart.

"He's doing everything you need to do to win a world championship," the 105-time grand prix winner said.

"So, I don't have any advice for him. Just keep doing what he's doing, because it seems to be working."
