Lewis Hamilton has been hit with a huge five-place grid penalty for the Italian Grand Prix next weekend, following an incident before the lights went out at Zandvoort.
Hamilton suffered a disastrous Dutch Grand Prix after crashing out on lap 23 at Turn 3, following an uncharacteristic mistake.
However, the seven-time world champion faced a post-race investigation after a yellow flag infringement before the grand prix.
The Ferrari driver failed to slow under yellow flags twice on reconnaissance laps to the grid for the race, and also failed to drive at a "greatly reduced speed" at pit entry.
It meant he was found to have breached Appendix H, Article 2.5.5 b) of the International Sporting Code and noncompliance with the race director’s event notes and breach of Article 44.1 of the F1 sporting regulations.
In addition to a five-place grid penalty for his first Italian GP as a Ferrari driver, the veteran has also received two penalty points to his super license.
