Lewis Hamilton calls for major Ferrari change: 'There are no rules'

Lewis Hamilton has called on Ferrari to introduce rules of engagement after his incident with Charles Leclerc on the opening lap of the Italian Grand Prix.

The Monegasque driver took the start from third on the grid, with Hamilton positioned behind him as the team went in the hunt for a home victory.

However, Hamilton was pushed wide by Leclerc as they went side-by-side through the first corner and skated through the gravel, dropping down into the midpack.

Hamilton voiced his frustration over team radio at the time, and insisted after the race that the team must come up with ground rules going forward.

“I think it comes down to rules of engagement,” Hamilton told media including RacingNews365.

“When I was at Mercedes, we had written rules of engagement.

“We never really, really had it too bad. There was a moment between me and Nico [Rosberg] a couple of times, but more often not, it was good. 

“Here, there are no rules. We need to address that.”

Ferrari's race went from bad to worse just moments later after Leclerc crashed into the barrier at the final corner, forcing race control to deploy a red flag.

Hamilton was then forced into a recovery drive as the front-runners streaked away, and he believes the red flag further dented his chances as he felt the medium tyre that he switched to was the wrong choice.

“It [the Turn 1 incident] was very bad for the team, and obviously it put us way back in positions,” he said.

“I just tried to reset, and I was like, 'okay, I'll try and catch up, and then obviously we had to stop.

“I think I put the wrong tyres on, probably.”
