Lando Norris issues 'fair' u-turn after Oscar Piastri radio frustration

Lando Norris has denied that Oscar Piastri's driving was out of line towards the end of the Italian Grand Prix.

The duo were involved in a late-race scrap for fourth place as McLaren looked to bring home a solid points haul after back-to-back victories at the last two rounds.

However, the race almost ended in disaster as, in the closing laps of the race, Norris attacked Piastri into Turn 4.

The reigning champion was forced to skate over the grass before settling back in behind his team-mate, expressing over team radio that he was pushed wide.

But Norris changed his tone after climbing out of the car, telling media including RacingNews365: “No, it was okay.

“I just need to review things, but it's just the perception of when you're in the car, when someone's opening the gap a bit and then goes straight.

“You get that perception when you're going at 200 miles per hour. So that's all.

“I think what he did was fair.”

Norris ended the race ahead of Piastri after moving in front of the Australian on the final lap with a move on the approach to the Ascari chicane.

Despite his team radio anger at the time, Norris insists he enjoyed the battle.

“It's just when you're in the moment, and you're half on the grass, you don't realise how quickly things can end pretty badly,” he said.

“Just in the heat of the moment, but no from that side, it was fine and it was a good battle. A good result from a tough race.”
