Lando Norris has stated there are subject matters Max Verstappen “doesn't have a clue about” as he hit out at the Dutchman's “aggressive” claim over the F1 title battle.
Verstappen commented earlier this week that if he were driving for McLaren this year, the title fight would have been settled several races ago.
Norris currently holds a 22-point lead over team-mate Piastri with two grands prix to go, while Verstappen is 25 points adrift.
Norris was asked about Verstappen's claim and first asserted he was free to say what he wants, having “earned the right” as a four-time champion.
“Max is very welcome to say everything he wants,” Norris told media including RacingNews365. “He kind of earned the right.
“He's won four world championships. I have a lot of respect and I think that gives anyone a lot of credit in general.
“He's achieved an incredible amount more than anyone generally dreams of achieving.”
However, Norris moved to criticise Verstappen's choice of words as he hit back at the Red Bull driver's attitude.
“Max generally has a good clue about a lot of things, but there's also a lot of things he doesn't have much of a clue about,” Norris added.
“It's also Red Bull's way of going about things, this kind of aggressive nature and just talking nonsense a lot of the time.
“It depends if you want to listen to it and talk about it, like you love to, or do what we do as a team, which is just kind of keep our heads down, keep focused.
“Maybe he would have done [won the title] but he hasn't so far, and he keeps trying.”
