Jack Doohan has explained the "mess up" with Alpine team-mate Pierre Gasly that led to his radio outrage during sprint qualifying for the Miami Grand Prix.
Doohan described his team's strategy as "a joke" and "unacceptable" after being knocked out of the first part of qualifying, leaving him to line up 17th on the grid.
Ahead of the final run in the session, Alpine released both cars from the pits at the same time, when Gasly should have gone first, leaving Doohan heavily compromised.
Seeing Gasly late, Doohan was unable to complete a turn into the pit lane, leaving him requiring assistance from his crew and last out on track. Ultimately, he was unable to complete his final flying lap.
On his return to the pits, he made his feelings clear to the team about their error.
"It all comes down to the last flying lap," said Doohan. "The feeling was good, and we ended up getting blocked on my way out of the pit lane, which was a mess up because it was from the other car, so then I wasn't able to do the final time lap.
"That's why they make the length of quali that long. You do two laps, improve quite a lot on the second, but I ended up being the last car out there and I didn't get a chance to do a second timed lap."
Adding that his first timed lap was "really messy", he said: "We were just trying a few things different from practice. Still, it wasn't too bad.
"I think there was a lot more time in the car for the second lap. I guess we'll never know, though."
