Isack Hadjar dismisses Red Bull restrictions: 'I'm not five years old'

Isack Hadjar has hit back at the suggestion that Red Bull could restrict certain extracurricular activities after he injured his wrist while training during the F1 summer break.

Hadjar quipped that he is not "five years old" when it was queried as to whether the Milton Keynes-based team might look to limit what he gets up to outside of the paddock.

Whilst it has not been officially disclosed, it is widely understood that the 21-year-old sustained the fracture on the outside of his left wrist boxing a punchbag in the build-up to the Dutch Grand Prix.

It forced him to sit out the round at Zandvoort, with the subsequent weekends at Monza and the Madring coming too soon for Hadjar to return to the cockpit of his RB22.

In his absence, Liam Lawson deputised alongside Max Verstappen, with Yuki Tsunoda filling in for the New Zealander at Racing Bulls.

However, despite the disruption to his campaign, Red Bull announced it was retaining Hadjar for the 2027 F1 season on media day at Baku.

The six-time constructors' champion has also decided against more closely monitoring the Frenchman's hobbies, although he openly admitted he does not know the full details of his new contract.

"No," the two-time podium finisher replied to media, including RacingNews365, when asked if Red Bull had restricted certain activities, including boxing, after his injury.

Hadjar: 'There are no restrictions'

Hadjar did concede that he will need to be more considered when boxing in the future, but was keen to stress he can make his own decisions.

"Next time I'll just be more careful," he added. "You know, maybe strap myself, and that's it. It happens.

"There are no restrictions. I’m not five years old, so I just need to think twice before, you know…"
