George Russell endured a difficult British Grand Prix after suffering a slow puncture during the race, forcing an unscheduled pit stop that dropped him to seventh and seemingly ended his hopes of a strong result at Silverstone.
It added to the woes the Mercedes driver has suffered of late, with his championship campaign appearing to slip away as teammate Kimi Antonelli built a commanding lead at the top of the standings.
Russell nevertheless managed to salvage second place by the chequered flag, benefiting from drama ahead of him.
Championship leader Antonelli suffered a wheel shield failure and was hit with a five-second time penalty for track limits, dropping the Italian to 16th and out of the points entirely.
Max Verstappen's crash further thinned the field, allowing Russell to stay out under the late Safety Car and climb back to the podium behind race winner Charles Leclerc.
The result means Russell now sits just 25 points behind Antonelli in the championship, a gap that stood at 68 points after the Monaco Grand Prix. That is a remarkable swing in momentum across just a handful of races, with Antonelli's Silverstone nightmare slashing his advantage almost by two-thirds.
So, should Russell now be considered back in the title fight? Cast your vote in the poll below.
