It is a rule tweak that has come into force as of today [June 1], but just how much will Mercedes be impacted?
So far this year, Mercedes has dominated, winning all five grands prix. Kimi Antonelli has won the last four, to open up a 43-point lead over team-mate George Russell in the drivers' standings. The Briton started the season by taking the chequered flag in the opening race in Australia.
In the constructors' championship, Mercedes holds a comfortable 72-point cushion over Ferrari, with reigning two-time defending champions McLaren 113 points adrift.
With six grands prix in eight weekends approaching ahead of the August summer break, could the landscape change following the closing of a loophole in the regulations?
From this weekend's Monaco GP, the FIA will measure the compression ratio of the new power units differently. In pre-season, it was suggested Mercedes had found a way to increase the ratio from the 16:1 as mandated in the regulations to 18:1.
The FIA responded to cries of 'foul' from the rival manufacturers, and instead of the ratio being measured at ambient temperatures whilst the cars are in the pit-lane, it will now be measured when the engine ambient temperature is 130 degrees.
But will Mercedes pay any price, and will their rivals be offered a window of opportunity to hit back? Take the latest RacingNews365 poll below and let us know what you think in the comments section.
