Horner: Wolff is never afraid to roast Mercedes

The Red Bull team principal believes that Toto Wolff can be harsh on his own team which Horner feels is a major difference between Red Bull and Mercedes

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner does not agree with Toto Wolff's philosophy of being strict on his own team in the media. Wolff stated that Mercedes have not been on their A-game in Monaco and Azerbaijan which is something Horner feels should be said behind closed doors. "Lots been made of Toto's comments this weekend," Horner told RacingNews365.com and other select members of the press. "He's never afraid to roast his team publicly which I disagree with but that's his prerogative." Horner believes that Max Verstappen's tyres should have easily made the end of the race. Verstappen's left-rear tyre blew out five laps from the end when leading the Azerbaijan GP which simply shocked everyone at Red Bull. "The tyres could have lasted easily," added Horner. "From the durability that we could see, and for the way that Max was driving the car, it should have been more than comfortable. "From what we could see in the race, you can see all the wear pins were there, the tyre wasn't being abused, the temperatures were all good. "His race engineer just checked in with him, just to make sure everything was under control and then boom so it was totally unexpected." Verstappen missed the chance to increase his lead in the Drivers' Championship but Lewis Hamilton's mistake after the red flag gave Red Bull a slice of fortune following Verstappen's bad luck. "Obviously, today looked like we were going to do a bit more damage than than we ended up doing," said Horner. "But we've just got to grab our opportunities when they present themselves. "Today was a real roller coaster, I feel like I've aged 20 years in the last hour."
