Historic Schumacher Ferrari up for sale with $4.9m price tag

You can own a slice of Michael Schumacher history; if you have $4.9m to spend, that is.

A historic Michael Schumacher Ferrari Formula 1 car that fought for the 1998 World Championship crown is up for sale. One of a number from that season, the Ferrari F3000 that is on sale was built to be the car to guide Schumacher to his first title with the Italian team, and the third of his F1 career. The German driver took the wheel tied on points with Mika Hakkinen at the Luxembourg Grand Prix, the penultimate race of the '98 season, knowing he could claim the title simply by outscoring his rival over the next two races. However, Schumacher was pipped to the flag by the Finn in Luxembourg, meaning he needed to outscore him by four points at the final round at Suzuka. But his title charge collapsed when he stalled on the grid, forcing him to start at the back of the pack, from where he retired the car, handing the glory to Hakkinen.

Schumacher F1 car for sale at $4.9million price tag

The car is available for sale via duPont Registry with a price tag of $4.9 million. If sold, its price tag is enough to make it one of the most expensive Formula 1 cars ever purchased. That crown belongs to the 1954 Mercedes W196R, the car in which Juan Manuel Fangio became a multiple F1 World Champion. According to F1, that car holds the record after it was sold for $29.6 million (or £19.6 million) back in 2013. There are plenty of Michael Schumacher Ferraris that have been sold in the past, with his Ferrari F2001 netting $7.5 million in 2017 and his Ferrari F2002 selling for $6.6 in 2019.
