Isack Hadjar declared himself to be 'pissed off' following a day to forget for the Red Bull driver after limping out of both the Singapore Sprint and qualifying for the grand prix.
In the sprint race earlier in the day, Hadjar was forced to pull his RB22 off the circuit due to a power unit problem as the field toured behind the safety car following a crash at the end of lap one involving George Russell in his Mercedes.
During the interval between the sprint and qualifying at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, the Red Bull mechanics replaced PU components with others from the pool, allowing Hadjar to start qualifying. The French-Algerian driver even thanked the team as he returned to the track.
It was not long, however, before he encountered further issues. Initially, he was forced to stop on track, but managed to get the car going again and return to the garage. Despite another attempt to post a lap, Hadjar then complained of a gearbox problem which proved terminal.
Asked of Hadjar whether he could digest his situation more easily as the gearbox issue was not his problem, speaking to Sky Sports F1, he replied: "No, I want to drive.
"Honestly, I don't care about P22. I just want to get out there and do my thing. I have plenty of soft tyres in the garage right now that aren't going to be used, and that's what pisses me off the most right now. I just want to be there fighting with the other guys."
With Hadjar to start at the back of the grid on a track where it is notoriously difficult to overtake, he confirmed the team is likely to fit a fresh power unit ahead of the race, which would lead to a pit lane start.
"We need new stuff, and tomorrow is an opportunity, obviously, because everything's breaking apart this weekend," he said.
"So, yeah, we need a fresh restart."
