Lewis Hamilton has revealed that he understands what needs fixing to avoid a repeat of last weekend's United States Grand Prix.
The seven-time world champion was replaced by Kimi Antonelli in first practice ahead of the Mexican Grand Prix, but was largely positive on Mercedes' W15 following second practice.
Hamilton ended the afternoon session which was used as a 90-minute in-competition 2025 Pirelli tyre test in seventh, whilst team-mate George Russell suffered a heavy crash.
Aspects of the crash were similar to what happened at Turn 19 to both Russell and Hamilton at the Circuit of the Americas.
For Hamilton, he suffered a Q1 exit last weekend before crashing out on the third lap; however, following the opening day in Mexico City he recognises what is needed.
"I know what I need to fix," revealed Hamilton. "Whether or not we can actually do that, we'll see. But it didn't feel terrible, a little bit off the front guys but we've got some work to do tonight."
As mentioned, Hamilton was replaced in first practice by Antonelli, who safely navigated his way through the entire session at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit.
On his debut in Monza earlier this year, Antonelli infamously crashed in the opening quarter of the session.
Hamilton's replacement for next season was more composed in Mexico City and impressed the 39-year-old.
"It was great to see Kimi do a really solid job for the team in FP1," added Hamilton.
"It's been enjoyable working with and supporting him ahead of the session and the programme he carried out set us up well for the afternoon."
